Nestled within the iconic walls of the UNESCO World Heritage Dutch Fort, in Galle, Sri Lanka, this 17th century built property is preserved and restored beautifully, showcasing Dutch and British architecture. It currently houses the Bungalow restaurant, and boutique hotel, a concept store and a beautiful flower shop. (currently Galle districts number 1 restaurant on trip advisor!!)
As you walk through the doors, you're stepping into a living chapter of the Fort's illustrious history. The lounge area retains its original flooring, which dates back over 200 years. The space, has a romantic moody feel with a bold colour pallet, a hint of maximalism, and contemporary furniture pieces, all inspired by the islands colonial past, creating a rich mix of eclecticism.
It is accessorized with antiques, vintage books, old pottery from different areas and an outstanding handmade chandelier, custom made for the space, to drop down from its double height ceiling. The blend of contemporary flair and vintage charm, creates the warmth and comfort of a familiar space. An exposed (Dutch built) coral wall, is the back drop to the beautiful restaurant space which opens out to an inner courtyard with a magnificent rose apple tree. The dining tables with dark hardwood tops and ornate legs, the French country style dining chairs, the bespoke brass chandeliers, the art deco inspired bar, and the very modern monochromatic artwork, all come together beautifully, creating a romantic setting for a wonderful dining experience.
The curated bed rooms, embraces boutique luxury, with a modern contemporary design. Sleek four poster beds, beautiful oriental rugs, large wabi sabi paintings and bespoke handmade brass chandeliers…. an eclectic mix once again, creates a cozy and luxurious space.
