The MOSAIKON course in Sidon assembled mosaic conservation trainees to tackle long-term preservation of mosaics in storage.

The design brief was to build a setting, grounded with texture and colour imbibing a calm and minimalistic environment. At first glance the four vertically stacked triangular planes of concrete which form the front facade defines this concrete home in Indore, India. The 5800sqft suburban home sits in a plot size of 2400 sq ft.

The basic idea of this project was to visually interweave the living space with its surroundings. In the first step, the most important points of view were identified via google earth. These visual landmarks in this project include the Leopoldkron Castle, the Leopoldskorner pond, the fortress Hohensalzburg and the Untersberg.

A private outdoor space was also intended. However, instead of the common backyard, the approach was to provide a middleyard, in order to achieve some privacy in the outdoor space. The house was designed in a “C” shape, turning its back to the surroundings and facing an interior patio that opens only in an unobstructed area.

Concept: The deep dark green colour has become dominant in the space, even enveloping. That creates a sense of intimacy and depth, as if visitors are inside a wine bottle. The interiors of the restaurant and bar have the same style, but still differ in details. For example, for the dynamic mood the floor covering in the bar is made more colourful.
